"Don't try to impress anyone today -- just be impressed by everyone else! " -- Denise Bissonnette
We carry around a lot of pressure sometimes in thinking we have to share our accomplishments with the people we meet. We try to impress people. And we try to impress upon them that we're worthy of respect and admiration.
This is exhausting.
What if we allowed ourselves to be impressed instead of trying to impress? I can tell you from experience that if you make conversations about the other person, you make them feel special. You make them feel proud. And once you make someone feel that way, they want to know all about you. They want to know who this person is that just made them feel like a million bucks.
The opposite is also true. If we come in hot and read our entire resume to another person before they even tell us their name, this disincentivizes the other person from sharing anything about themselves. And we lose out on the opportunity to be impressed because of our need to impress.
If you meet someone new today, give them the chance to impress you. You'll eventually get your turn to share your amazingness. And your amazingness will seem more amazing because you've already made them feel amazing.
Make it a great day!
