The Beautiful Game

Today is Opening Day for Major League Baseball. For those of us who love baseball, it's a day of hope and excitement. It's a welcome back party for the teams and the players who have been on hiatus since the fall.

Every team is 0-0. Every team has a chance to win it all. In a few weeks, some teams will start to look hopeless. But today every baseball fan is saying to themselves, "This could be the year. You never know."

Today is like opening up a brand new book. We have some ideas about what's going to happen, but we don't know how it's going to end. There will be joy, turmoil, and heartache.

The book that is a baseball season is 162 chapters long. If your favorite team makes the playoffs, the book also includes an epilogue. Every chapter is unique. Every character is unique.

My Giants are in New York to take on the Yankees today. The starting pitcher for the Yankees is married to the sister of the Giants shortstop. The best player on the Yankees seemed destined to join the Giants this off-season before deciding to stay in New York. The Giants have twin siblings pitching out of their bullpen.

You can't make this stuff up. The game of baseball is beautiful to watch. And the stories of each team and each player make the season unfold like a book you cannot put down, or even a soap opera.

Happy Opening Day to you and yours. May the book or your team keep you on the edge of your seat throughout the summer. And may it bring you closer to your friends and family by giving you something to share and talk about.

Make it a great day!

Coach Chris
